Graduate Study Opportunity

The Sonoma State University Department of English offers an MA degree in English with an emphasis in Literary Criticism, Creative Writing, or Rhetoric & English Education.

Plan early! Applications for the 2025-26 year starts October 1. The priority deadline for application is January 3 and final deadline is March 10.

The Department of English offers a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate programs. Students majoring in English choose one of three concentrations: 

  • English and American Literature
  • Creative Writing
  • Single Subject English Education (Secondary Teaching Preparation)

The Department of English also offers a Minor in English and a Minor in Linguistics. Students interested in double majors or in combining English with other fields can check in with a faculty advisor.
