Hannah Bowick (BA, MA)
Current title: AP Language Instructor and Advisor at University of Texas, Arlington and The Episcopal School of Dallas
The graduate program at SSU really launched me into the pedagogy that I use in my seventh grade English classroom, and my success as a teacher is newly indebted to the rhetoric and composition faculty. My thesis, advised by Dr. McIntyre and Dr. Miller, emphasized the importance of narrative and memoir in a writing classroom as students learn to develop their own voice and academic agency. By being given my own agency as a graduate student, I learned firsthand the skills necessary to create a classroom of equity, growth, and risk-taking. Sonoma State prepared me for my career by providing me with exemplary instructors and a curriculum that rooted itself in empathy, respect, and growth.
